HOW TO PLAY
1
Participants stand around the edge of the sunken pit, each gripping a pair of wooden clubs by the narrow end.
2
Lift one club at a time behind the shoulder and swing it in a wide circular arc.
3
Alternate arms so the clubs rise and fall in a continuous rolling rhythm.
4
Match the swinging tempo to the drumbeat and recited verses led by the pit's rhythm master.
5
Increase the swinging pace gradually as the drumming builds in intensity.
6
Finish the set of movements together as the rhythm master signals the close of that exercise.
