Wrap the string tightly around the top starting near its point, leaving a length to hold when throwing.

Throw the top with a snapping motion so the string unwinds and sets it spinning on the ground.

In the competitive version, players try to catch their own spinning top on the palm of their hand without letting it stop.

Advanced players attempt tricks, such as bouncing the spinning top from palm to palm or balancing it on a fingernail.

Judges or the group compare spin duration and trick difficulty to decide the round's winner.
