HOW TO PLAY
1
Community members gather in a plaza during a festival, often accompanied by music and dancing that builds anticipation.
2
Two participants, sometimes from rival communities, step forward and face each other in the open space.
3
The pair exchanges bare-fisted blows in a ritualized bout while onlookers form a circle around them.
4
Elders or community members watch closely and step in to separate the fighters once a clear exchange has taken place.
5
The bout is understood as a symbolic offering meant to ensure a good harvest rather than a contest for personal victory.
6
After the bout, the participants are separated and the community often returns to communal dancing and celebration.
