- A long, thick rope
MEASUREMENTS
Rope of about 15-20 meters with a marked center point
HOW TO PLAY
1
Divide participants into two teams of roughly equal size and line them up along either end of the long rope.
2
Mark the rope's center point and align it over a line drawn on the ground between the two teams.
3
On a signal, both teams pull steadily backward, digging in their heels and coordinating their timing as a group.
4
Traditionally the tug-of-war is tied to the turning of the agricultural season, so some groups add call-and-response chanting while pulling.
5
The team that pulls the rope's center marker across their own line first wins the contest.
