Set up each player's 15 checkers in the starting arrangement for whichever of the three traditional variants you are playing.

Players alternate rolling both dice and moving their checkers forward along the points by the number of pips shown, choosing to split the move between two checkers or move one checker twice.

Depending on the variant being played, checkers may be blocked from landing on points held by two or more enemy checkers, or may need to pass over occupied points without landing.

A player who rolls doubles gets to make that same move distance four times instead of two.

The goal in every variant is to advance all 15 checkers around the board and then bear them off the final points before your opponent does.

Whoever bears off their last checker first wins the game; players often play a race of several games to a set point total.
