SPUD

Every player is secretly assigned a number, and one player starts by tossing the ball straight up while calling out a number.

All other players scatter away from the tosser as soon as a number is called.

The player whose number was called grabs the ball and shouts "Spud!" to freeze everyone else in place.

That player takes up to a set number of steps toward the nearest frozen player and throws the ball to try to hit them.

A hit earns the thrower a letter toward spelling "S-P-U-D," while a miss earns the thrower a letter instead.

The next round begins with whoever last touched the ball calling a new number, and a player who spells the full word restarts with the fewest letters or is out, depending on house rules.
