Snow Snake Toss
S
PLAYERS
2+, competing individually or in teams
DIFFICULTY
SETTING
Outdoor
MATERIALS
- A long smooth wooden or waxed rod (the 'snake')
- A packed snow or ice track
MEASUREMENTS
Track is a shallow trough packed into snow, often 50-100 feet long.
HOW TO PLAY
1
Pack and smooth a long snow trough so a thrown rod can slide with minimal friction.
2
Each player grips their snake near the tapered end and crouches low before releasing.
3
Throw the snake low and hard along the trough so it skips and slides rather than flies.
4
Mark the spot where each throw comes to rest and measure the distance from the throw line.
5
After every player has thrown, the longest slide for that round earns the point.
6
Play continues for an agreed number of rounds, and the highest total distance wins.
