MATERIALS
- Two wooden singlesticks with basket hilts
- Protective padding or headgear (optional, historically often bare-headed)
HOW TO PLAY
1
Each combatant grips one singlestick and tucks their free hand behind their back or through their belt.
2
Facing off, both players strike and parry, aiming their blows chiefly at the head and shoulders.
3
A solid, clean strike to the head that draws blood or is acknowledged by both players and a referee ends the bout in the striker's favor.
4
If no decisive blow lands within an agreed time, judges score the bout on the number and quality of strikes landed.
5
Combatants salute one another before and after the bout regardless of the result.
