MATERIALS
- A 40-card Italian deck (or a standard deck with 8s, 9s, and 10s removed)
HOW TO PLAY
1
Deal 3 cards to each player and place 4 cards face up on the table; the rest form a draw pile.
2
On your turn, play one card from your hand, either capturing a table card of matching rank, or a combination of table cards adding up to its rank, or laying it face up if no capture is possible.
3
Capturing every card currently on the table with a single play is called a "scopa" and scores a bonus point immediately.
4
Continue until all hands are empty, dealing new hands from the draw pile as needed, until the deck runs out.
5
Score points at the end for things like most cards captured, most coin-suit cards, and holding the highest coin card, plus any scopa bonuses.
6
Play to an agreed total score, often 11 or 16 points, across multiple deals.
