Sammy Dead-O

Players join hands and form a circle, with one player chosen to lie down in the middle pretending to be 'Sammy,' who has died.

The circle of players walks or dances around the player in the middle while singing the traditional call-and-response song mourning Sammy's passing.

Partway through the song, the players in the circle act out exaggerated grieving gestures, such as wailing or wiping away pretend tears, in time with the verses.

At a set point in the song, the player playing Sammy suddenly springs up and chases after the other players, who scatter and try to avoid being caught.

The first player tagged during the chase becomes the new Sammy for the next round.

The circle re-forms around the new Sammy, and the singing and mock mourning begin again from the start.
