HOW TO PLAY

Players form a circle holding hands, with one player, "Sally," kneeling or crouching in the middle.

The circle walks around Sally while singing the traditional verses about rising, wiping tears, and choosing a partner.

On the cued line, Sally rises and mimes the actions described in the song, such as wiping her eyes or turning east and west.
4
When the song calls for choosing a partner, Sally picks another player from the circle to join her in the middle.
5
The two dance together briefly as the group claps and sings the closing verse.
6
The chosen player becomes the new Sally, and the game restarts with fresh players in the circle.
