Pysanky (Ukrainian Egg Writing Contest)

Draw a design on the egg using melted wax applied with the fine-tipped tool; any area covered in wax will resist the next dye color.

Dip the egg into the lightest dye color first, then dry it and add more wax over areas you want to keep that color.

Continue dipping into progressively darker dye colors, adding new wax lines after each bath to build up a layered pattern.

Once all dye layers are complete, gently warm the egg to melt off all the wax, revealing the finished multicolor design underneath.

Compare finished eggs as a group and vote on categories like most intricate pattern or most colorful design.
