Set up the wooden pins in a cluster or line at one end of an open lawn or dirt lane.

Mark a throwing line at an agreed distance from the pins for every player to stand behind.

Each player takes a turn rolling or underhand-throwing the ball toward the pins, trying to knock down as many as possible in one throw.

Pins that fall are set aside and counted, while any pins left standing remain in place for that player's next throw in the same turn.

Reset all the pins once every player has had their turn for that round, and record each player's total knocked down.

Play an agreed number of rounds and add up each player's totals; the highest overall score wins.
