Pau de Fitas
- A tall pole fixed upright in the ground
- One long colored ribbon per participant, tied to the top of the pole
- Drum or accordion music to keep rhythm
The pole stands roughly 3-4 meters tall with ribbons long enough to reach the ground when fully unwound.
Each participant takes hold of the loose end of one ribbon hanging from the top of the pole and stands in a circle around it.
As the music starts, alternating dancers move clockwise and counter-clockwise, weaving under and over each other's ribbons in a set pattern.
The group must keep pace with the music while braiding the ribbons neatly down the length of the pole without crossing incorrectly.
A team is considered to have failed the round if two ribbons tangle into a knot instead of weaving cleanly.
When the ribbons run out or the braid reaches the ground in an even pattern, the group reverses the steps to unweave the pole back to its starting position.
