Mark out a play area with a rough center line, or scatter freely if playing without teams.

One or two players start as throwers holding the "poisoned" ball.

Throwers try to hit other players below the shoulders with the ball.

A player who is hit sits out or joins the throwers, depending on the house rule chosen before starting.

Players may catch a thrown ball cleanly to send the thrower out instead.

Play continues until only one un-hit player remains, who wins the round.
