Oranges and Lemons

Two players face each other, join raised hands to form an arch, and quietly agree between themselves which one is 'oranges' and which is 'lemons'.

The rest of the players form a line and walk through the arch one behind another while everyone sings the rhyme together.

As the song reaches its final line, the two arch players lower their arms to trap whoever is passing through at that moment.

The captured player is asked quietly which side they choose, oranges or lemons, and moves behind that arch player.

The song and walking begin again, and once every player has been caught and sorted into a team, the two lines have a gentle tug of war to finish.
