Ninety-Five
- Standard 52-card deck
- Scorepad or matchsticks for tallying
Deal five cards to each player and turn the next card face up to set the trump suit for the hand.
Before play, each player may discard any non-trump cards and draw replacements from the remaining deck to improve their hand.
Players take turns playing one card to the center; the highest trump played, or the highest card of the suit led if no trump appears, wins that trick.
The trump five and trump jack outrank every other card in the deck, including the trump ace, so holding either is a strong advantage.
Points are awarded for winning tricks containing the trump five, trump jack, and ace of hearts, plus a smaller point for each other trick taken.
Play repeated hands and keep a running score; the first player or side to reach the agreed target total wins the game.
