HOW TO PLAY
1
Two people kneel on either side holding a pair of poles flat on the ground.
2
On a steady beat, the pole-holders slide the poles together and then apart in a repeated open-close rhythm.
3
A dancer steps into the gap between the poles and must hop out again before they clap shut.
4
As confidence grows, dancers add spins, crossed steps, or move through several pole pairs set in a row.
5
Musicians or clapping bystanders keep the tempo steady, sometimes speeding it up to raise the challenge.
6
A dancer whose foot gets caught between closing poles steps aside and lets the next dancer take a turn.
