MATERIALS
- Red and white yarn or thread, braided or twisted together
- Small tassels or pompoms, optional
HOW TO PLAY
1
Braid together lengths of red and white yarn to make small bracelets or pins, one for each person you plan to give one to.
2
On March 1st, give a martenitsa to family, friends, or coworkers and tie one onto their wrist as a wish for health and good luck.
3
Wear your own martenitsa on your wrist or pin it to your clothing every day through the month.
4
Keep watch outdoors for the first sign of spring, traditionally the first stork or blossoming tree you spot.
5
Once you see that first sign of spring, tie your martenitsa onto a blossoming tree branch to pass the wish along.
