MATERIALS
- A 32-card deck (seven through ace in each suit)
HOW TO PLAY
1
Deal cards to each of the three players, keeping a small hidden 'talon' aside.
2
Players bid on how many points they think they can score, with the highest bidder becoming the 'player' who takes the talon and chooses trump.
3
The remaining two players work together informally to try to prevent the bidder from reaching their target.
4
Play tricks following the suit led when possible, with trump cards beating any non-trump card played.
5
Score points for capturing high cards in tricks and for announcing certain pairs of king and queen in the same suit ('marriage').
6
Compare the bidder's final score to their original bid to determine whether they succeeded.
