DIFFICULTY
SETTING
Outdoor
MATERIALS
- A two-person crosscut saw (or single-person bow saw for solo events)
- A fixed log of standard diameter
- A stopwatch
MEASUREMENTS
Logs are typically a standard diameter, often around 12-16in (30-40cm), clamped securely before sawing.
HOW TO PLAY
1
Secure the log firmly in a cutting stand so it cannot shift during sawing.
2
One or two sawyers position the crosscut saw against the marked cutting line on the log.
3
On the starting signal, the sawyers pull the saw back and forth in a steady rhythm, letting the blade do the cutting without forcing it.
4
Two-person teams alternate the pulling motion smoothly so the saw keeps moving continuously through the log.
5
The timer stops the instant the cut section of log falls free, and the fastest time across all competitors wins.
