La Sortija

Suspend a small ring from a crossbar at a set height above the riding path.

Riders gallop their horses at speed along the path, holding a pointed stick or rod extended forward.

As they pass beneath the ring, riders attempt to spear the ring cleanly with the stick without slowing down.

A successful catch of the ring is announced and often celebrated with a dance or toast, depending on local custom.

Riders take multiple passes, and whoever collects the ring most times, or on the fewest attempts, wins.
