MATERIALS
- A pair of wooden practice swords
- A long wooden staff
HOW TO PLAY
1
Partners begin with a slow bow or salute to show respect before any sparring begins.
2
Practitioners perform prearranged sequences of strikes, blocks, and footwork with their chosen weapon, often set to drumming.
3
Partners take turns being the attacker and defender, switching weapons between sword pairs and the long staff.
4
Movements emphasize wide stances, spins, and controlled strikes that stop just short of contact.
5
A more advanced pair can perform faster improvised exchanges once the choreographed patterns are mastered.
6
The session ends with another bow, and performers can be judged on precision, control, and confidence of movement.
