Give each participant or team a patch of sand and a bucket or mold.

Within the time limit, build the sand into as tall and stable a mound as possible.

Once the base mound is complete, decorate the top with small flags or flowers representing personal wishes.

Judges inspect each mound for height, stability, and decoration once time is called.

The mound judged tallest and best decorated wins, echoing the merit-making spirit of the original tradition.
