A small pit or line is marked on the ground as the batting spot.

The short stick is balanced across the pit, then flicked into the air with the long stick.

While it is airborne, the batter strikes the short stick as far as possible.

Fielders try to catch the short stick before it lands to earn an out.

If it is not caught, the batter measures the distance in stick-lengths to score points before passing the bat to the next player.
