HOW TO PLAY
1
Explain that the Esala Perahera is a grand procession with drummers and dancers walking a long parade route.
2
Players form a line behind the drummer, who sets off walking a loop around the space.
3
The drummer plays a steady beat, and everyone must step in time, matching pace exactly.
4
The drummer randomly changes tempo — slow, fast, or a sudden pause — and the line must react instantly.
5
Anyone who mismatches the tempo change drops to the back of the line.
6
Rotate drummers periodically to keep the parade lively.
