PLAYERS
2, or pairs practicing in turn
DIFFICULTY
SETTING
Outdoor
MATERIALS
- A wooden staff for each player, roughly shoulder height
HOW TO PLAY
1
Stand facing your partner at staff's length apart, each holding a staff with both hands.
2
Practice set attack and defense sequences at slow, controlled speed, calling out each move before performing it.
3
Block your partner's strikes with the staff while aiming your own toward safe target zones like the shoulder or your partner's staff, never the head.
4
Progress to freer exchanges only once both partners are comfortable with the basic blocks and strikes.
5
Sessions typically close with a review of technique rather than a declared winner, since the tradition prizes skill and control over combat.
