Jogo de Capoeira
- An open circle of space, traditionally called a roda
- Optional hand drum or berimbau for rhythm
Open circular space at least 3-4 meters across
Form a circle with the group, leaving open space in the middle for two players to enter at a time.
The two players crouch and begin with a slow, cartwheeling ginga step that keeps their weight shifting and their body moving.
Exchange flowing kicks, sweeps, and dodges aimed at demonstrating control and reading your partner's movement rather than making hard contact.
Match the pace and energy of your movements to the rhythm being kept by the surrounding group and any accompanying instrument.
Respond to each offered movement with an evasive or countering movement of your own, keeping the exchange continuous.
The exchange ends when either player signals a stop or a new pair steps into the circle to take over.
