MATERIALS
- A board carved or painted with 58 holes in a curved pattern
- Five or six dog-headed pegs for one player and jackal-headed pegs for the other
- Throwing sticks or knucklebones to generate a random number
HOW TO PLAY
1
Each player places their set of pegs at the starting holes near the base of the board.
2
Players take turns casting the throwing sticks or knucklebones to see how many holes they may advance one peg.
3
Certain holes are linked by carved channels that let a peg leap straight ahead to a connected hole, while other marked holes grant an extra throw.
4
Landing on a hole already occupied by an opponent's peg can send that peg back toward the start, depending on the house rules in play.
5
A peg must land exactly on the final hole at the top of the board to come home, so players adjust their moves to hit that target precisely.
6
The first player to bring all of their pegs safely into the final hole wins the game.
