Players pair up and stand one behind another in a single-file column, with one extra player, the catcher, standing ahead of the line facing away.

The catcher calls for the back pair to run, one down each side of the column, trying to reach the front and join hands again before being caught.

The catcher tries to tag one of the two runners before they can reunite and clasp hands at the front.

If the catcher tags a runner, that runner becomes the new catcher, and the previous catcher joins the untagged runner as the new front pair.

If neither runner is caught, they form the new front pair and the catcher tries again with the next back pair in line.
