DIFFICULTY
SETTING
Both
MATERIALS
- A wooden practice stick (soti) per participant
- Optional padded gear for sparring
HOW TO PLAY
1
Both participants begin with a formal salute to their instructor and to each other.
2
Warm up with solo stick-spinning patterns to build wrist control and footwork.
3
Face off and exchange controlled strikes and blocks with the practice sticks, aiming for the arms, shoulders, and sides rather than the head.
4
Circle continuously rather than standing still, since footwork is treated as part of the defense.
5
A supervising instructor stops the bout whenever a clean, controlled strike lands or contact grows too forceful.
6
End the bout with a mutual salute and a brief review of the exchange from the instructor.
