Choose an open field or hillside with steady wind and no overhead obstacles.

Unwind some line, hold the kite up, and let the wind lift it while a partner runs it forward if needed.

Let out more line steadily as the kite climbs and catches stronger air higher up.

Adjust the angle and tension on the line to keep the kite steady and prevent it from diving.

For a friendly contest, judges can score kites on how high they fly, how long they stay aloft, or their decoration.

Reel the line back in slowly and evenly to bring the kite down without letting it crash.
