Fan-Tan (Chinese Button Game)

The banker scoops an unseen handful of buttons from the pile and covers them with a cup.

Players place their bets on which remainder, from one to four, will be left when the covered pile is divided into groups of four.

Once bets are placed, the banker lifts the cup and uses a small stick or tool to count off the buttons four at a time.

The banker keeps removing groups of four until fewer than four buttons remain, revealing the final remainder.

Players who bet on the correct remainder are paid out according to the agreed odds.

The banker gathers the buttons back into the pile, and a new round begins with a fresh unseen scoop.
