MATERIALS
- A board of two rows of pits scooped directly into the ground
- Small stones, dried dung pellets, or seeds as counters
HOW TO PLAY
1
Scoop out two facing rows of shallow pits in the dirt and fill each pit with an equal number of counters.
2
Players sit across from each other, traditionally passing the time while herding or resting with livestock nearby.
3
On a turn, empty one pit on your own side and sow its counters one at a time into the following pits around the board.
4
Landing your last counter in an opponent's pit that reaches a capturing count lets you scoop up that pit's contents.
5
Players continue alternating turns, planning ahead to set up favorable captures on later moves.
6
The game ends when one side's pits are empty, and the player who has captured the most counters wins.
