MATERIALS
- An 8x8 checkered board
- 16 pieces per side: king, queen, 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops, 8 pawns
MEASUREMENTS
Standard squares: 5.7cm (2.25in). Tournament boards roughly 50cm x 50cm.
HOW TO PLAY

Set up pieces on each player's two back rows with a light square on each player's right.

White moves first; players alternate one move per turn.

Pawns move forward, rooks in straight lines, bishops diagonally, knights in an L-shape, queens any direction, kings one square any direction.

Capture opposing pieces by moving onto their square.

Special moves: castling, en passant, and pawn promotion.

Game ends in checkmate, or a draw by stalemate, repetition, or agreement.
