The ring is typically hung from an overhead arch positioned along a straight galloping lane long enough to build up full speed, often 60-100m.

HOW TO PLAY
1

A small ring is suspended from an overhead arch at roughly the height of a mounted rider's outstretched arm.

2

Each rider takes a turn galloping their horse at full speed down the lane toward the hanging ring, holding a slender stick out in front of them.

3

As the rider passes beneath the arch, they try to thread the point of the stick through the center of the ring and lift it cleanly off its string.

4

A successful catch scores a point for that rider, while a miss or a ring that falls without being properly speared scores nothing.

5

Riders take turns making passes across several rounds, with the ring sometimes made progressively smaller to increase the challenge.

6

The rider who has speared the most rings after the agreed number of passes is declared the winner.
