- A butter churn per competitor or team
- Fresh heavy cream
- A timer
HOW TO PLAY
1
Fill each churn with an equal measured amount of heavy cream.

On the starting signal, competitors begin churning by cranking or plunging their churn continuously.
3
Competitors periodically check whether the cream has separated into solid butter and liquid buttermilk.
4
The first competitor to produce a visible, solid lump of butter calls out to have it verified by a judge.
5
The judge confirms the butter has fully formed, and that competitor or team is declared the winner.
