Boule Lyonnaise
B
PLAYERS
2-8 (teams)
DIFFICULTY
SETTING
Outdoor
MATERIALS
- A set of heavy metal boules per team
- A small wooden target ball (the 'but')
- A long dirt or gravel lane
MEASUREMENTS
Play takes place on a packed dirt lane roughly 15-20 meters long, often bordered by low wooden rails.
HOW TO PLAY
1
A player throws the small target ball down the lane to set the marker both teams will aim for.
2
Players take a running approach and roll or throw their metal boules along the ground, trying to land closest to the target ball.
3
Opposing teams may also aim their boules directly at a rival's boule to knock it away from the target.
4
Once every boule has been played, the team with the boule closest to the target scores a point for each of their boules that beats the other team's closest boule.
5
Teams alternate throwing the target ball for the next round, and play continues until one team reaches the agreed winning score.
