Bashi (Maldivian Bat and Ball Game)
B
PLAYERS
6-14 (two teams)
DIFFICULTY
SETTING
Outdoor
MATERIALS
- A wooden bat or paddle
- A small soft ball
MEASUREMENTS
Played on an open sandy field with a marked batting line and running distance.
HOW TO PLAY
1
Split players into two teams, one batting and one fielding, and mark a batting line on the sand.
2
A bowler from the fielding team tosses the ball underhand toward the batter standing at the line.
3
The batter strikes the ball with the paddle and then runs to a marked point and back before the fielders can react.
4
Fielders chase down the struck ball and try to hit the runner with it or return it to catch them out.
5
Each safe run completed earns the batting team a point, while a fielder's successful hit or catch ends that batter's turn.
6
Teams swap batting and fielding roles after an agreed number of outs, and the higher final score wins.
