Awalé
- A carved wooden board with two rows of six pits
- 48 small seeds or beads as counters
Place four seeds into every pit along both rows before play begins.
On your turn, scoop up all the seeds from one pit on your own row and sow them one at a time into the following pits, moving counterclockwise around the board.
If your last sown seed lands in an opponent's pit and brings its total to two or three seeds, capture all the seeds in that pit.
Check backward along the opponent's row from that point; any earlier pit that also ends at two or three seeds is captured too, as long as the chain stays unbroken.
A move that would leave your opponent with no seeds to sow, when an alternative move exists, is not allowed under the traditional rule.
Play continues until one side's row is empty; the player who has captured the most seeds overall wins.
