Players sit or stand in a circle and hold out closed fists.

One player taps each fist in turn while reciting a short rhythmic chant.

On the final word of the chant, the fist being tapped is opened, and that player is temporarily out of the counting round or becomes the chosen one, depending on the version being played.

Continue tapping around the remaining fists until only one player, or the one to be chosen, is left.

Use the result to decide who goes first, who is 'it,' or who gets a special role in whatever game follows.
